usfirst.org ... for Yousef, very great multifaceted benefit for coping, real world engineering skills for large income in labor force, friends, communication, teamwork, logic for problem solving in multidisciplinary fields including but not limited to relationships of all sorts including but not limited to the one he has with his parents.
It is founded by http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dean_Kamen
A classmate of mine got a scholarship from it; so, it could also help you with out of pocket expenses for Yousef's college education.
usfirst.org is the simplest way that I know of to have a very large and complex multifaceted benefit in Yousef's development and entire life, much of which would take me too long to detail here.
Hopefully both of you will seriously consider influencing him and supporting him to be very active with the program.
Why this?
1.
Everyone could benefit from these skills and outlets and everyone often needs them. Yousef is already in therapy to cope with behavior which could have many things to do with the influences of divorce and conflict with both of his parents, which is a common pattern in the 50% of divorced families. My sister and I were in the same type of therapy as Yousef when we were his age for the same type of reasons; however, I was often able to cope and communicate with things much better than my sister and that is in large part due to all of the variables of influence I had which are included in usfirst and other athletic team sports all of which I found to be MUCH more beneficial than typical psychological counseling / therapy which did almost nothing in comparison because ruminating about problems does not give you something good to do with your life to cope with everything possible in every way regardless of how both can be helpful.
2.
It's my nature.
I'm eclectic, a free spirit with various experiences; and, I don't like to trap myself in a box of any sort.
My hope is to succeed with business for the next 5-10 years, then possibly and ideally earn an Ed.L.D. (Education Leadership Doctorate), and MAPP (Masters of Applied Positive Psychology... I sometimes considered an MPH but MAPP is much more brief and focused .... and people can learn almost anything equivalent to an Ivy League education from the internet now) for additional credibility to run my own private school with at least 20-30 kids to start, in hopes to lead by example of a very different curriculum to be applied to Public Education, much of which take me too long to detail here; however, it is built on a multi-variable analysis including but not limited to:
bls.gov
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maslow's_hierarchy_of_needs
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Positive_psychology
usfirst combined all of these variables.
It's almost all the benefits of athletic team sports but with much less risk of injury and much more realistic use for life. If you had to make 1 choice of whether to spend your money and time on usfirst OR athletics, I'd say usfirst.
